DOE Cancels Three Major Transmission Corridor Projects

The Department of Energy has canceled three national transmission corridor initiatives that were designed to enhance grid reliability and expand high-voltage capacity.

The Department of Energy has terminated three major transmission corridor projects that were previously slated to address critical infrastructure gaps across the nation's electrical grid. According to Utility Dive, the canceled initiatives included plans to strengthen resource adequacy in the PJM Interconnection, one of the largest power grids in North America serving millions of consumers across multiple states.

The discontinued projects were also intended to enhance transmission capacity between the Southwest Power Pool and WestConnect regions, which serve customers across the central and western United States. Additionally, the initiatives aimed to resolve deficiencies in high-voltage transmission infrastructure serving tribal areas, where grid connectivity has historically lagged behind national averages.
