Vanderbilt University announced the appointment of David C. Miller, MD, MPH, as the next President and CEO of Vanderbilt Health and Dean of Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, according to Newswise. Miller currently serves as Chief Executive Officer of Michigan Medicine and Executive Vice President for Medical Affairs at the University of Michigan, positions he has held while overseeing one of the nation's largest academic medical centers.

The leadership transition marks a significant moment for Nashville's healthcare landscape, as Vanderbilt Health stands as one of the region's largest employers and most prominent healthcare systems. Miller's appointment comes as the organization continues to navigate post-pandemic operations and competitive pressures in the academic medical center space. His extensive experience in managing complex healthcare operations at a peer institution positions him to address strategic priorities at Vanderbilt.

Miller will succeed Jeff Balser, MD, PhD, who has led Vanderbilt Health's growth and expansion initiatives. The transition represents an opportunity for Nashville's business community to engage with new leadership at one of Middle Tennessee's most influential institutions, which impacts everything from employment to healthcare innovation in the region.
