Tennessee Woos Paramount in Bid to Attract Major Studio

Tennessee officials are actively recruiting Paramount Pictures to relocate its headquarters, citing competitive advantages that could reshape the state's entertainment sector.

Tennessee's economic development team has launched a strategic recruitment effort targeting Paramount Pictures and CEO David Ellison, according to reporting from The Hollywood Reporter. Deputy Governor Stuart McWhorter sent a formal letter to Ellison on July 2, positioning Tennessee as an alternative headquarters location amid the studio's ongoing tensions with California regulators over its proposed $111 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery.

McWhorter's pitch emphasized Tennessee's core competitive advantages: fiscal discipline, low tax burdens, predictable regulatory governance, and a state government committed to partnering with private enterprise. The approach mirrors successful economic development campaigns that have attracted other major corporations to the Southeast, positioning Tennessee as a business-friendly alternative to higher-cost coastal states.

If successful, such a recruitment would represent a significant expansion of Tennessee's entertainment and media industries beyond Nashville's established music sector. The potential relocation would signal growing confidence in the state's infrastructure and workforce capacity to support large-scale corporate operations, with potential ripple effects across regional real estate, talent development, and related business services.
