According to Bloomberg Markets, Swedish mining company Boliden AB has agreed to purchase Votorantim SA's controlling stake in Nexa Resources SA, a major zinc and silver producer. The transaction, valued at $1.3 billion, positions Boliden as the principal shareholder in the South American mining operation.
The acquisition represents a significant geographic expansion for Boliden, extending its production capabilities across Brazil and Peru. By taking control of Nexa, Boliden strengthens its portfolio of base metals assets and establishes a stronger foothold in Latin America's mining sector, a region with substantial reserves of zinc and silver.
The deal underscores Boliden's strategy to grow its presence in the global metals market through strategic acquisitions. With this investment, the Swedish miner aims to optimize operations and leverage Nexa's established production infrastructure in two of South America's key mining jurisdictions.
