Autonomous freight company Gatik has secured $200 million in Series D funding, according to FreightWaves, marking a significant expansion of its driverless trucking operations. The round was led by Qatar Investment Authority and Koch Disruptive Technologies, positioning the company to scale from its current fleet of dozens of vehicles to thousands of trucks operating across North American routes.
The capital injection underscores growing investor confidence in autonomous vehicle technology for long-haul and middle-mile freight operations, a segment seen as more tractable for early autonomous deployment than consumer vehicles. Gatik's focus on middle-mile routes between distribution hubs and freight consolidation centers has allowed the company to operate in controlled environments with fewer variables than complex urban driving scenarios.
With the new funding, Gatik plans to accelerate its rollout across existing and new markets, addressing persistent driver shortages and rising logistics costs that have pressured freight companies. The round reflects broader industry momentum as autonomous vehicle developers target the $800 billion trucking sector.
